A New Movie Studio Makes History

In 1994, for the first time in decades, a new live-action film studio was created by the coming together of a dream team of Hollywood’s best and brightest talents; Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen and DreamWorks SKG was born. We were hired by DreamWorks directly to interpret the famous “boy sitting on the crescent moon, fishing for stars with a pole” into the very first sign marking their now famous first film studio and offices located on the back lot within Universal Studios, Hollywood.

The sign consists of a monument sign made from copper and bronze with a custom modeled oxidation process using boiled spinach, an idea created internally, trialed and perfected by our team. Although the sign is not a large project, we were humbled and proud to be selected based on our quality reputation to play a small part of what is still on display as Hollywood studio history, on the back lot of Universal Studios 29 years later.
